Microtech Setup Tips and Common Mistakes
Once your new ECU is wired into place, double check all connections before re-connecting the battery.
Before you attempt to start the car,you must first calibrate the TPS sensor & zero the ignition timing.Below is a step by step guide to carry out both of these set up procedures.
TPS CALIBRATION
*Scroll up to the options screen (screen 30) then across to the "TPS CAL" screen.
*If your system is fitted with a switch type TPS,you will need to loosen the screws mounting the TPS onto the throttle body, and physically turn the TPS until the "current" display reads 0%.Retighten the TPS in this position and check the calibration by softly touching the accelerator pedal-as soon as you touch the throttle, the TPScal value should change from 0% to 99%.
*If your system is fitted with a variable resistor type TPS,switch the handset to program mode(program mode is activated by pressing the red "mode" button,PG will appear on the screen to indicate that the program mode is activated)and with the throttle closed, use the up/down ADJ buttons to make the "current" display in the TPScal screen read 0%.
An astreisk (*) will be displayed on the screen when the TPS is properly calibrated.
ZERO IGNITION TIMING
*Scroll up to the "set up" screen (screen 31) and across to the "timing check" screen
*Switch the handset to program mode & then use the ADJ up/down buttons to set the screen to "timing locked on".This locks the timing(all timing correction values are ignored) so there is no timing advance.
*Check the timing with a timing light & adjust to 10deg BTDC for piston motors,or 5deg ATDC for rotaries (the first mark you see on the pulley). Switch the Timing Check function off again (display reads"timing check OFF",rev the engine & check the timing again with the timing light.Make sure the timing advances as the revs increase.
